| CLEM SNIDE’S “HUNGRY BIRD” SET
Band’s 2006 Final Album Surfaces on 429 Records
With the release of “Hungry Bird” Eef Barzelay is hoping to put an end to any and all rumors he may have started regarding the death of Clem Snide. After a series of painful and bitter breakups in early 2006, both within the band and with their long time manager and booking agent, the future of Clem Snide seemed uncertain at best. Eager for a clean slate, Eef struck out on his own with two solo releases(“Bitter Honey” and “Lose Big”)and embarked on a budding film scoring career (“Rocket Science” and “Yellow Handkerchief”).
Clem Snide was originally formed by Barzelay around a loose knit group of friends living in Boston in the early 90’s. Before long the band relocated to NYC and put out their first LP, 1998’s “You Were a Diamond”. After a brief yet impassioned relationship with the legendary Seymour Stein, they left Sire Records and joined with stalwart indie label SpinArt Records, enjoying their biggest taste of mainstream success with 2001’s “The Ghost of Fashion.”
“Hungry Bird” is Clem Snide’s 6th full length release (429 Records) and similar to 2005’s “End of Love,” it was produced by Barzelay and recorded by Mark Nevers (Lambchop, Silver Jews) at his studio in Nashville. It features Eef on vocals and guitar, Pete Fitzpatrick on guitar and banjo, Brendan Fitzpatrick on bass, Ben Martin on drums and percussion, Tony Hamel on piano, organ and accordion, Roy Agee on trombone and a special spoken word performance by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Franz Wright (on “Encounter at 3AM”).
With ambitiously extended, sometimes odd-metered song structures and unsettled hallucinatory lyrics, “Hungry Bird” was loosely conceived as a post-apocalyptic fairy tale. The soundtrack to a pre-millenial Christmas pageant on a cassette tape melting in the desert.
Come spring of 2009 Eef and Clem Snide will valiantly attempt to bring these songs and other fan favorites to clubs and theatres all over Europe and these United States. Stay tuned!
