Top 8 Best Pop Filters For Blue Yeti Microphones In 2020 Reviews

Presumably, if you have invested in a Blue Yeti microphone, then you are serious about getting a great sound. They don’t come particularly cheap. Blue Microphones was set up in 1995 by an American session musician and a Latvian recording engineer. And with a bit of help from Apple pushed on developing microphones.

The company has been sold on a few times but is now part of Logitech who bought it in 2020. The Blue Yeti is recognized as one of the top microphones in the middle price bracket and produces a great sound. But it can be better, especially in studios or with live work. And to achieve superior results, despite the many features built-in to the mic, an extra pop filter will help to create a pristine sound.

The idea of a pop filter is to operate as protection against unwanted external sounds, especially in recording studios. Air that is moving fast, such as when a singer really punches out a vocal, can cause a ‘popping’ sound as it hits the mic and the pop filter eliminates that. They can come in various designs, shapes, and even materials. Some are screens placed in front of the mic; some are foam covers or windscreens.

So let’s take a look at the best pop filters for Blue Yeti Microphones and find the perfect one for you…

1 Professional Foam Windscreen For Blue Yeti

This is a windscreen design filter and can serve a variety of uses. It will operate to protect the mic from unwanted sounds in the recording studio or other indoor venues, but it is particularly good for outdoor use. For outdoor use, it will protect the mic from wind noise and even some very light rain and is a design made for live interviews.

Made from a tough sponge foam material it is fitted by rolling it over the mic head and it fits over the entire top of the microphone. Blue Yeti and Yeti Pro microphones are very similar in shape and size. And so this windscreen will fit most of the range, but it is particularly designed to fit the Blue Yeti and Yeti Pro.

Make a difference…

Set at a reasonable price, it is a cheap and efficient way to remove those unwanted noises that can make the difference in the quality of a recording.

Carrying it around is clearly not going to be a problem, and it can be placed in any suitable case or holder. It can be hand washed. And comes in black which adds to the professional feel of the windscreen. And it is a product that will appeal to professionals and enthusiast alike. It certainly does the job of removing unwanted external noise very well.

2 Pop Filter For Blue Yeti Microphone

A design that is more likely to be seen in recording studios for this pop filter. It attaches directly to the microphone through a clamp and is made for the Blue Yeti and the Yeti Pro.

The clamp is carefully made to clip on easily and not leave marks or scratches on the microphone. It is also designed to fit a variety of microphone stands, booms or extension arms and will fit the square and rectangular shape of the Blue microphones. But also the standard tube like stands. It will clip on either to the supplied desktop stand or even to the desk itself if you so choose.

Excels for indoor use…

It is ideal to help you achieve outstanding voice recordings if sung, or for podcasts or voice-overs. In fact, in any situation where a voice is needed, and the recording can be done inside, then this pop filter will excel.

And is made from a tough plastic with a double layer of screen mesh that when placed in front of the mic, will get rid of those annoying little pops that naturally occur. There is a gooseneck that is strongly built, but supple enough for you to be able to bend it to the exact position you want.

It is a secure and stable adjustment that does not move during use and maintains its set position. The gooseneck is 14 inches long, which is an adequate length for positioning.

It is not the cheapest pop filter you will find, but it is well made and stable when attached.

3 Foam Microphone Windscreen For Blue Yeti, Yeti Pro

Mudder offers their microphone windscreen for the Blue Yeti at a price that is very competitive and will appeal to anyone looking for a cheap and basic solution to unwanted noise being picked up by the mic. It doesn’t have some of the features that some of the other filters possess but is still good value for money.

The fitting is easy and quite tight, without stretching the material, so it is going to stay in a position. Which can be a problem with some of the cheaper windscreens on the market. This item, though, is not going to fall off because the fit is too loose.

Let the wind blow…

It is designed to be used indoors or outdoors, but the windscreen designs are often better used for outside recording. Wind noise especially is cut down by windscreens such as these which is not normally a problem inside. Indoor use is going to produce acceptable results though because it still performs its task of cutting down on external interference.

Made from a high-density foam which not only acts as a noise reducer, it also offers a little protection to the mic head if you are using it outside. It must be said though that the foam is not as durable as it is on some other windscreens, which is why it is a bit cheaper. Nevertheless, it is not going to fall apart and is washable with care.

It is delivered in a vacuum-packed bag, and because of that when you remove it from the packet, it will need a little time to regain its shape. Not something to worry about if you give it a bit of breathing space. Its a budget windscreen, but still quite good value for money.

Foam Microphone Windscreen For Blue Yeti, Yeti Pro

Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

  • Cost-effective price.
  • Will cut out a lot of unwanted noise if used outdoors.

Cons

  • Foam is quite thin, so care needed when handling.

4 InnoGear Upgraded Microphone Pop Filter

If you have ever been in a recording studio or listened to a recording and heard those awful plosives that can occur you will know why a filter is important. It is usually when the person you are recording uses an ‘S’ or a ‘P’ or maybe even a ‘B.’ And there is an unintentional hiss or ‘pop’ at the beginning of the word. Even the pros, people who have been singing or narrating for years often generate them.

To get a great recording, you have to get rid of them…

Innogear have come up with a good pop filter with some added protection that you don’t always get on items at this price. This makes it an attractive buy and a contender for the best pop filter for the Blue Yeti.

Two are better than one…

It has two filters, not just one. The outer screen will reduce most of the air surge, just like a single filter might. It then goes through the second filter by which time all unwanted noise has been eradicated, assisted by the small air space between the two filters. Hold it up to where you might sing into it and blow gently, and you can feel nothing coming through.

Having an extra filter doesn’t make it heavy, and it weighs just seven ounces. The gooseneck is made of carbon steel and is flexible and not too long at 14.5 inches. Adjustment of angle and distance from the mic is therefore easy to negotiate, and once in position it is stable and doesn’t move around.

The clamp is a basic rotating screw with a gripper and will attach to the majority of mic stands and booms. But it is particularly designed to allow attachment for Blue microphones, both Yeti and Yeti Pro.

Good value for money and has the capability to reduce those unwanted noises.

InnoGear Upgraded Microphone Pop Filter

Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Competitive price.
  • Two filter design.

Cons

  • The clamp is a little basic and may need some care in operation.

5 Sywon Upgraded Three Layers Microphone Pop Filter

Before we go too far with this brief review, we would like to draw attention to the size of this filter. In the pictures you can view in several places it looks quite large, but the size is actually 3.5 by 3.4 by 2.8 inches which is actually quite small. The plus side is that it is very lightweight at only 5 ounces. It is only just large enough for the Blue Yeti microphone, but you have to be careful when attaching it.

The Sywon filter has not one or even two filter layers, but three. When combined together, they reduce the plosives, pops, or wind noise to an absolute minimum. The three layers comprise a foam, a metal mesh layer, and a layer of etamine. The regular foam is the outer layer which is washable with care.

To hold the filter in place, there is an inner rubber ring and elastic bands that secure it to the microphone.

One of a kind…

It certainly is a unique design and one that is worth considering. It is obviously a budget model and has a very cost-effective price point. The considerations are not how well it will reduce peripheral noise and plosives, but whether it will be easy to use and is it stable.

Rubber bands seem to be the weak link in the construction, and that is probably why an extra set is included in case of breakages.

We think if you are willing to take a chance with the rubber bands, given it is going to be a tight fit on the Blue Yeti; then it might be ok. Cost-wise there isn’t much to lose, and it will certainly do what it says it will. It is a cheap alternative, so if you don’t set your sights too high, it might be fine.

Sywon Upgraded Three Layers Microphone Pop Filter

Our rating:4.1 out of 5 stars (4.1 / 5)

Pros

  • Three layers of filter.
  • Cheap price.

Cons

  • Rather cheaply made.

It is made of a good quality foam material that has a thick texture, and that is shaped to exactly fit the mic very snugly without being too tight, but to ensure there is no movement during use.

It is designed to effectively reduce any unwanted sounds caused in the normal events of supplying a vocal, or just dialogue if used inside or out. And will to cut out wind and any other ambient noise.

Built to last…

Easy to fit and use, its durable construction makes it easy to clean and keep in good condition. It will also act as protection from moisture or other elements that may interfere with the performance of your microphone.

It will operate comfortably in a number of environments, either in a studio for recording vocals, interviews or voice-overs or for outside broadcasts. And is another non-expensive item that will enhance your vocal or narration recordings. A budget windscreen it may be, but it does the job very well.

As with many of these types of windscreens, they are shipped in flat packaging and so they need to be left out for 24 hours while they regain their natural shape.

7 Aokeo Professional Microphone Pop Filter

Aokeo are specialists in developing equipment for the music industry. Based in Los Angeles, they have a global network to whom they supply their products. They are held in high esteem and the design of their products respected.

This Pop filter is a double-layered design. The first filter behaves as the usual filter would, preventing any sudden rushes of air from the user from reaching the surface of the microphone.

Of course, with only one filter, there will naturally be an element of sound that gets through hence the second screen. The distance between the two filters, small as it is, cancels this leftover sound and as the sound passes through the second filter, it is ‘clean.’ The recording is, therefore enhanced.

The filters are made from a gauze material that is flexible, but quite strong and applied to both filters.

Flexible and stable…

The gooseneck is made from carbon steel and is just under 15 inches long, giving you enough room to create the best position for the filter. It is flexible but stable and once positioned, will remain in place. It has a 360-degree circle.

The screw-tightening clamp has a width of 1.6 inches and is fitted with sponge cushioning mats and rubber fittings. And it will attach itself to most microphone stands, booms and to the Blue Yeti and Yeti Pro. Being so well-padded it will not cause any surface marking to what it is being attached to, which is not the case with some filters.

This is a high-quality pop filter made by a company with a reputation for quality products. And the price point is set to make this an attractive buy — certainly one of the best pop filters for Blue Yeti Microphones.

Aokeo Professional Microphone Pop Filter

Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Well made with good materials.
  • Double layered filter.

Cons

  • Only suitable for indoor use.

8 Knox Pop Filter For Yeti Microphone

Another pop filter designed especially for the Blue Yeti microphone. This time by Knox, another company with a good reputation, and this filter is well designed.

One of the problems in designing a pop filter for the Blue Yeti is the unconventional design of the microphone. It is not your standard condenser microphone that sits on a mic stand where the attachment of a pop filter is decidedly simpler. The design of the clamping system is therefore important, and the usual systems found on most filters won’t do the job adequately well.

Flatten it out…

The clamp design is not curved as would be the case under normal circumstances but flat. This allows it to be positioned against the Yeti. On both surfaces of the clamp, padding has been attached where it makes contact with the mic to avoid and accidental scratches or marks

The screen is attached to a gooseneck that is flexible yet sturdy enough to be bent into the required position. The neck is 14” long, which is a good length to get the right position. The neck once set in position is stable enough to remain fixed.

It is a single screen design that is six inches wide with a tough plastic surround and weighs just seven ounces.

Can take a few knocks…

This even looks a robust filter, and as these filters can sometimes take a few knocks even in a recording studio, it feels solid in the hand. If it has one issue, it is that when attached, it does limit the movement of the mic. But as this is built for indoor use, it is unlikely you will be moving the mic around too much during a recording.

A good quality pop filter at a reasonable price and must be considered as one of the best pop filters for Blue Yeti microphones.

Knox Pop Filter For Yeti Microphone

Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Well made with good materials.
  • Good design specifically for the Blue Yeti.

Cons

  • Can restrict the movement of the mic when attached.

Best Pop Filters For Blue Yeti Microphones Buying Guide – So Who Is Not Going To Be Top Of The Pops?

One of the most irritating things that can happen is you’ve just laid down what you think is a good vocal track. It has been sung well and with passion and you listen back and…pop, pop, pop all over the place. Wasn’t noticeable on the take but now. Oh dear.

Happens with interviews, narrations, in fact, anywhere someone speaks into a mic plosives occur, even with the most experienced of people.

Pop Filters have then become a vital piece of equipment to prevent it from happening and ensuring the take you thought was so good, is good.

A Choice, Windscreen Or Filter?

Essentially they both do the same job but in different ways and with varying results. So the question is, where will you use it?

If it is to be used inside, in a studio where there is an element of control, then the Pop screen might be the better option. Screens are better at reducing plosives than windscreens, and a windscreen can sometimes add a little to the high frequencies. Pop screens don’t have a reaction on the sound to the same extent.

Outside use is a different thing, and Windscreens cut out sound coming from all directions. And are especially good at filtering wind and other ambient noise which a screen could not do.

That will affect your choice of what you buy. If it is for outside, then a windscreen is the best choice, inside the Screen may be the better option.

Other Options

If you buy a screen, there are some design differences. Some are layered, meaning they have more than one screen. But attention should be paid to the quality of the gooseneck for adjusting the position of the filter and the clamping style used. The gooseneck must be well-made and extremely flexible, and the clamp made to not damage the mic or any stand.

The Blue Yetu is a unique mic in many ways, but its desktop design brings forth a few challenges for attachment of filters, though not so much for windscreens.

There are plenty of choices for both options, so make your choice and get rid of those pops!

So, What’s The Best Pop Filters For Blue Yeti Microphones?

As we decided that since we would only be using the microphone inside and not in outdoor locations. We decided to go for a filter rather than a windscreen. There are some good windscreen products, but a filter serves our purpose. It’s obviously got to be well-made and preferably have double-layered screen protection.

There are some good filters with good protection from plosives, but we decided to go for the…
